Description
Dangerfield Early founded First Church of Walnut Hills in 1856, which combined Baptist and African Methodist Episcopal (AME) parishioners. The AME congregation separated in 1863 to form Brown Chapel, and the remaining congregation became First Baptist.

Originally meeting on Park Avenue, the congregation had several homes in Walnut Hills – all in the heart of the African-American community. In 1908, they built the brick sanctuary that stands today; it includes materials from several of the older buildings.
