Founded in 1855, the Episcopal Church of the Advent has called this plot of Walnut Hills home since the original part of the building was erected in 1859. The church has several stained-glass windows done by Tiffany, as well as many other artistic features donated by parishioners over the years.
Until the middle 20th Century, the church was one of the most populous in the Southern Ohio Diocese. Unlike many other city Protestant churches in the 1960’s, Advent made a choice to stay in this neighborhood despite many of its congregants moving to the suburbs. In the 1975 it set up and endowed Open Door Ministries to reach out to its neighbors; this organization continues today.
