Description
The German Protestant Cemetery opened in 1843. It began as a five-acre ground at the western edge of the current 70-acre Walnut Hills Cemetery. There are still graves and monuments in German, too often bearing the names of many children from the same family. A lovely nineteenth century chapel stands in the midst of the old German section.

Other Protestants were buried there through the twentieth century, although it kept its original name through and after World War I when many other German place names were changed. Only during WW II did the burial place change its name to Walnut Hills Cemetery. Internments in the Walnut Hills Cemetery now reflect the full diversity of the neighborhood.
