At the same time as the Cincinnati School Board addressed building needs for the Black population of newly annexed Walnut Hills, it also built a school for White children (1872). Designed by Samuel Hannaford, the architectural plan for the 22nd District School was used in other school buildings during this period. Later renamed “Cummins” after a long-time principal, the building served as a grade school until 1980.
Today, the building houses a daycare, pre-school, and the Dohn School (charter).
